2020 SHORTLISTED ENTRIES - Create & Cook Competition

2020 CREATE & COOK COMPETITION SHORTLIST:

Thank you so much to all the teachers and young cooks who have persevered with their entries during lockdown. We really appreciate the big effort that has gone into finishing off this project after schools have closed. We have loved judging the entries and reading the ideas based on local ingredients. Here is the shortlist county by county of recipes created by 12-14 year olds. We will announce winners from each county next Wednesday......

GLOUCESTERSHIRE SHORTLIST
Jemima and Emma, Denmark Road High School, Gloucester - twice baked Double Gloucester soufflé with Cotswold Gold basil pesto; Blaisdon plum jam bakewell tart

Jake and Calum, Pittville School, Cheltenham - local eggs, black pudding & cheese on muffin; Gloucestershire pork fillet stuffed with pork sausage, onion and homegrown sage served with hasselback potatoes and homegrown glazed carrots

Riley and Abi, Churchdown School, Gloucester - sweet and sour Balti chicken curry with homemade raita & naan bread; Uncle's honey cup sponge served with strawberries and cream

OXFORDSHIRE SHORTLIST

Emma and Esme, St Helen and St Katharine, Abingdon - home tea smoked Oxfordshire trout with potato rosti, chargrilled local asparagus with lemon and dill creme fraiche; chocolate and raspberry fondants with biscuit crumb and creme fraiche

Jemma, Gosford Hill School, Kidlington - Oxfordshire chicken kebabs with rice and seasonal veg; vanilla and local strawberry cake

Aseel and Jacapo, Matthew Arnold School, Oxford - ravioli with Oxford blue cheese and homegrown rocket served with cream sauce; dreaming spires kanufa with local ricotta and honey

SHROPSHIRE SHORTLIST

Daisy and Grace, Shrewsbury High School - cumin crusted Shropshire lamb with shallots and new potatoes; locally strawberry cream Paris-brest choux pastry ring

Amy and Trinity, Thomas Adams School, Wem - Shropshire paprika chicken burger with chips and homemade coleslaw; homegrown rhubarb crumble with Shropshire cream

Kitty and Georgia, Adcote School, Shrewsbury - Shropshire rump steak with peppercorn sauce and seasonal veg; mini lemon meringue pie with lemon sorbet

HAMPSHIRE AND SUSSEX SHORTLIST

Joshua and Joey, Fernhill School, Farnborough, Hampshire - River Test smoked trout soufflé's fritters with watercress salad and lemon mayo; Nepalese Gurkha Newlyns Farm chicken curry, naan bread and crunchy salad

George and Patrick, Shoreham College, Sussex - South Coast fish paella with garlic bread knots; Eton Mess with Sussex berries

Mia and Beth, Sackville School, East Grinstead, Sussex - Tablehurst Farm lamb kofka with tzatziki dressing, Greek salad with High Weald Feta cheese & homemade flatbreads; Sussex berry pavlova with Sussex cream and raspberry coulis
